What our nonfiction book writing course offers that others don’t

If there was a 6 star review, they would get it. I can’t say enough positive things about Booksmith Academy and their book writing programme, the Book Forge. If you have a book in your future, I highly recommend bringing them on board to support you.”

Lisa Wheeler.

So what is it about our nonfiction writing programme that’s worth all of its 6 stars? We’ll let you decide…

What is the Book Forge?

The Book Forge is the Booksmith Academy’s signature book writing programme for all you budding and blossomed nonfiction writers, whether you have a sizzling life story to tell or some advice and knowledge you’re burning to share.

easyBook Forge membership gives you:

  • 24 live sessions (2 a month for 1 year) to equip you with all the essential knowledge, tips and skills you need to write your book and take care of yourself
  • Workbooks on each topic covered
  • Ebooks, audio and videos on complementary subjects
  • Guest webinars from published authors and industry experts
  • 1-2-1s to review and discuss your writing (for platinum members only)

Pretty good, ay! But that’s not all.

The real magic and strength of the Book Forge lies outside the curriculum.

It’s flexible and self-paced

We know that anything you do for yourself outside of work and family has to fit in with your busy schedule. That’s why we’ve made this course 12 months. The beauty of our year-long writing programme is that it provides the space to dive deep into subjects like structure, planning, hooks and pace, while allowing room for reflection, growth, and care for you as a writer.

The flexibility inherent in the course and space it leaves to find your pace is also reflected in the fact that you can join the live webinars twice a month or watch the recordings in your own time. The workbooks and resources we’ve created to complement and build on the content of the tutorials can be downloaded and worked on when you’re ready, too. They’re there to support you in your book writing journey whether you’re halfway through a first draft or are still fishing about for ideas.

The course is designed to give you focus on writing and book development when life is easy, while also allowing space to breathe when life fills your writing and learning time pockets.

We provide you with expert guidance and resources

Shouldn’t this be true of all online writing courses?!

Yes, it certainly should be. But the Book Forge goes one step beyond. It brings together a unique mix of expertise to help bring out the best in you and your writing. Kate is a journal and holistic therapist with stacks of teaching experience and Jen is a content writer and copy editor with years of publishing experience.

We offer two live sessions, one from each of our coaches, every month for a year. One specialises in the technical aspects of writing a book, covering subjects like finding your author voice, research, genre and style, and editing. And the other focuses on caring for you, the creator, inside and out, helping you to navigate the emotional highs and lows of the creative process.

We help you look after your biggest asset – you!

The Book Forge sets out a handy roadmap for conducting research, planning content, revising drafts, crafting a compelling narrative, and finding the right features to bring your book to life. But it also takes care of you, the creator, the wordsmith.

Writing a book, whether it be a memoir or self-help book, can be very demanding on your time, energy, body and mind, so having regular, gentle reminders and insights into how to look after yourself throughout this process is essential in not only creating a book you’ll be proud of, but one you’ll enjoy writing to boot!

You become part of a small, supportive writers’ community

With these regular, manageable doses of knowledge, tips and discussions from our live sessions, come not only pools of creativity and growth, but a sense of togetherness. We get to know you; you get to know us and your fellow Book Forgers. We’re in this together to keep motivation up, answer questions, bat around ideas. We hold your hand when things get tough and lead the cheering when you hit your milestones.

“I took the plunge and joined the Book Forge. It has been an amazing journey… full of friendship and guidance with expert knowledge in both the technical aspects of writing a book and also being able to maintain a healthy wellbeing in the process.”

It keeps you motivated

If you’re the type of writer that needs deadlines to focus and commit, you can use the monthly materials, tutorials and member support to give you some structure and goals. If you like to have no pressure and to work at your own variable speed, you can dip into the resources whenever you’re ready.

With our magic blend of technical and wellbeing expertise, you’ll end the Book Forge year with more than just a draft or complete manuscript. You’ll be part of a supportive community of fellow authors each with a stack of invaluable new skills and resources to help you get several huge steps closer to stroking the pages of your very own book!

But don’t take our word for it…

“Feels like a cliche to say the Book Forge was life changing, but for me it actually was. This led to me leaving a 20-year career … and embarking on a life where I have more time to pursue my writing passion.”
